I lost another domain..

Blog Category:

I got a question asking why my subversion repository was no longer working. It turned out that someone was still using the old pcwereld.net domain to access my server. This has always worked for legacy reasons but not anymore. Apparently it got hijacked. Ironically enough, preventing that was the reason i registered the domain in the first place ;)

So what happened? I simply forgot to renew the domain and as it turns out, the cheap registrar that I used didn't even bother to send me a reminder. That will teach me not to use the cheapest I can find.

I have a couple more domains about to expire and I don't want the same to happen there. Which host do you guys use for domain registration and DNS? All I need is full control over DNS (preferably with IPv6 records as well), nothing else.

Try Gandi (http://gandi.net). They support free software, and offer good service.

Looks interesting. They also provide a secondary nameserver which is great. I plan on running my own nameserver as a hidden primary and use two secondaries hosted by different companies which serve the zones to the big bad internet.
That way I'll have full control over DNS without having to run a public nameserver.
